The origional Solent Tidal stream Atlas called Solent Tides has been expanded to include, not only the Solent tidal streams in detail, but also the whole area from the southwest Shingles buoy to selsey Bill and to four miles south of the Isle of Wight. By combining results from a recent tidal model with information derived from local surveys and experience, greater accuracy has been possible. The tidal arrows shown have been drawn to reflect the actual movement of the streams rather than the straight generated by the tidal model that, when the stream is not running straight, can only be accurate at one point. The tidal streams apply at hourly intervals relative to high water at Portsmouth.
This tidal stream atlas will be of utmoast value to those who race sailing vessels in the Solent, and round the Island. It will also be of value to those on the helm of cruising yachts, motor yachts, fishing boats and dinghies, besides divers and swimmers, who wish to use the strong tides of the Solent and Island to maximum advantage when riding a fair stream, or minimum disadvantage when heading against it.
