The Optimist has become one of the best known and biggest classes of sailboats in the world. Over 150,000 are regestered (although a lot more have been made) and are sailed in more than110 countries.

The "Oppy" has been the starter boat for young sailors who have developed a lifelong love of sailing, some have gone on to achieve olympic gold medals and around the world sailing success.
