Together with her sister ship the Bismarck, the Tirpitz was the last, and the largest, battleship ever built in Germany. After a construction period of 5 years, the Turpitz was put into service in 1941, and her operations were circumspect from the outset. She initially lay in the Norwegian fjords and through her presents posed a constant threat to Allied convoys bound for Murmansk. Dispite all protective measures, however, the Turpitz eventually came under attack of midget submarines and Allied aircraft, and was scuttled in November 1944.

Containing a general introduction to the developement of battleships, and with extensive cross-refernces to Bismarck, this title offers a complete guide to the history and construction of one of the most famous German warships ever built.
