Anatomy of the Ship.
The precise details of the ships of Christpher Columbus- the Santa Maria, Nina and Pinta - remain lost to historians, for the ships were built befor the first manuals of shipbuilding were written, and no dovumendation or illustration has survived. Nevertheless, extensive research has allowed the construction of a number of replicas over the years, and those built in Spain in 1892 and 1927 are regarded as among the most realistic.
The replicas built as part of the 500th anniverary celebrations of the European discovery of America in 1992 are without doubt the most accurate to date. Many Years of research by Jose Martinez-Hidalgo and his successors into the naos and caravels of the fifteenft and sixteenth centuries allow awhole new insight int the design and construction of Colombus's famous ships. 118 pages. h/b
