It pleases us at Seachest to no end to see new generations of sailors and yachtsman learn and use nautical charts when they take to the water. Better yet, the new advancements they have at their disposable, from upgradable pilots to downloadable apps, mean you have no shortage of help at sea. One of our favourite, most enduring tools is the NV Charts; a selection of charts that cover the Baltic Sea, European Inland Waters, the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, the Bahamas and, most recently, the US east coast. Each chart is produced from Nautical Publications’ own surveys and design, with each chart boasting numerous features that will be indispensable on board your vessel.

For more than 35 years, NV Charts have served the needs of professional yachtsmen, and even today they are supplied to US Coast Guards and to pilots on the Kiel-Canal in Germany. One of the key points of these charts, from a consumer perspective, is that they are supplied as full chart packages; containing a paper chart, companion CD and more often than not a Harbour and Anchorage Pilot book – which provides more key information that is vital for safe local navigation. In their modern incarnation, the NV Charts also come with a digital download to be used with Nautical Publications own ‘marine boating cartography’ app, available for IOS, Android and Windows devices, complete with Cloud compatibility.

Each chart is based on information from the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO), and includes essential map features such as harbour plans and details for approaches, passages and anchorages of the given area, extra details for rivers and channels, as well as notes and warnings for the given waters. Despite their long history on the water, NV Charts are still very much in the prime of their usage – as early as February of this year, the new NV Atlas chart formal was nominated for the prestigious DAME Design Award, which honours new marine equipment and accessories.

One of the most ideal nautical charts for the leisure industry, once you buy into a NV Atlas, you’ll be able to use the company’s monthly corrective service to ensure all your passage charts, coastal charts, details, tides and currents are fully up to date. The Kombipack paper formats will keep the physical charts well protected out on the water, and there’s even the option to resell your charts through the Nautical Publications website.
