Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers (COSWP) 2015 edition - Amendment 6

This Amendment 6 to to the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers (COSWP) 2015 edition provides updates to various chapters to improve health and safety on your sea vessel. It details how certain statutory requirements should be met and comes with a structured framework for health and safety duties to go through with new crew members. 

It is a requirement of written statute that an up to date copy of the Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seafarers be carried on all UK ships. Once in place, this health and safety information should be made available to anyone onboard the ship who asks for it. 

Amendment 6 updates:

• Chapter 3 - New section on mobile phone use and personal electronic devices
• Chapter 4 - Additional new sub-sections on lifeboat and rescue boat launching drills
• Chapter 14 - Added material on permits to work forms
• Chapter 18 - Information on ropes and wires reorganised Chapter 19 Updated advice on the regular examination of lifting equipment or accessories
• Chapter 19 - Updated advice on the regular examination of lifting equipment or accessories
• Chapter 20 - Information added about assistive-start substances and maintenance-free storage batteries
• Chapter 26 - Addition of a new sub-section and annex on safe self-mooring operations and examples of mooring arrangements
